SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLE-HEADER WITH DOWLING COLLEGE
Oakdale, NY (3/28/08) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double-header with Dowling College this afternoon in Oakdale, NY. The Lady Chargers took the first game, 6-0, but loss the night cap, 3-2.
In game one, DC got on the board in the first inning as Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) led off the game with single and later scored on the RBI fielder's choice by Sarah Beck (Milton, NY). In the third inning Beck tripled to once again plate Piasecki and give the Lady Chargers a 2-0 lead.
Dominican added three runs in the fifth as Beck picked up her third RBI of the game with a single and freshmen Kristi Dillon (Staten Island, NY) and Shayla Esgro (Jermyn, PA) each had RBI singles to increase the Lady Charger lead to 5-0.
DC added a run in the seventh on a RBI double to right center by Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) as they went on to the 6-0 victory. Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) (1-3) got the complete game win with a one hit shut out.
In game two, Dominican score two runs in the third as Beck's RBI single allowed Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) to score and senior Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) later scored after getting a single to reach first.
Dowling came back to knot the game in the bottom stanza on two hits. The Lions won the game in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI single after getting runners on with a walk and a single.
Sophomore Laurie Edwards (Riverhead, NY) took the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits and four strikeouts.
With the split, the Lady Chargers are now 4-12 overall and 2-0 in the CACC.
The Lady Chargers are back in action tomorrow when they travel
to CACC opponent, Philadelphia University.
