LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY 

Philadelphia, PA (3/29/08) The Dominican College softball squad split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with Philadelphia University this afternoon.  The Rams won the first game 6-5, while the Lady Chargers won the second game 6-2.

Game one:  Tied at 3-3 going into the top of the fifth, the Lady Chargers scored two runs as freshman Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) doubled with the bases loaded to plate Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) and Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) who had both singled earlier in the inning to give DC a 5-3 lead. 

The Lady Rams pulled to within one run at 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth when senior outfielder Maureen Keenan registered an RBI double that plated sophomore Kelly RaucoJanine Becker delivered a bases-loaded double that won the game, scoring Desmond and sophomore Kristin Giamatteo.

Reliever Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) took the loss (3-7) in 1 2/3 innings of relief after allowing two runs on five hits.  Jacque Curtis got the complete game win for the Rams.

Game two: DC capitalized on two Rams errors in the top of the second to score three runs.  Ollari led off the inning on a single, followed by Stathes reaching base on a error which brought home OllariScarillo then hit a single to right field and an error allowed her to advance to second and Stathes to third.  Freshman Shayla Esgro (Jermyn, PA) then singled to plate Stathes and a two out RBI single by senior Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) allowed Scarillo to score and give DC a 3-0 lead.

Dominican followed with two runs in the top of the third on RBI singles by Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA) and Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ).

The Rams got on the board with runs in the bottom of the third and fifth to cut the lead to 5-2, but DC added a run in the sixth on a RBI single by Beck for the final 6-2 victory.

Stathes earned the win (4-7) allowing two runs on eight hits and seven strikeouts.

With the split, Dominican improves to 5-13 and 3-1 in the CACC, while the Rams are 3-13 and 1-3 in the CACC.
