LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL CHARGE PAST CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE GRIFFINS

Philadelphia, PA (4/12/08)  The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from Chestnut Hill College this afternoon.  The Lady Chargers won the first game, 8-0 and the second game, 8-0.

Game one: The Lady Chargers scored a run in the second inning as Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) led off the inning with a double and came in to score on the RBI single up the middle by junior Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ).

DC added two runs in the sixth as Beck's single plated two runners to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the seventh Dominican exploded for five runs as Laurie Edwards (Riverhead, NY) and Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) each had RBI singles.  A two run double by first basemen  Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) made the lead 7-0 and a RBI double by Knuth scored the final run as DC won the game 8-0.

Edwards got the win (1-3) pitching the complete game, scatter just four hits and striking out six.

Game two: The second game saw the Lady Charger score runs in the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead.  An RBI single by Beck scored a run in the first and an error allowed a run to score in the second.  Piasecki followed in the second with an RBI single to right field to put DC ahead 3-0.

In the third, freshman Shayla Esgro (Jermyn, PA) hit an infield RBI single to score a run  and Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) followed with another RBI single and an RBI groundout by Edwards brought the DC lead to 6-0.

The Lady Chargers followed with runs in the fifth and sixth innings as Scarillo hit another RBI single and Danielle Garrison's (Coatesville, PA) RBI single gave DC the 8-0 victory in six innings.

Edwards picked up her second win of the day (2-3), allowing just three hits and four strikouts in six innings.

With the wins the Lady Chargers improve to 14-14 overall and 10-2 in the CACC, while the Griffins fall to 7-26 overall and 4-12 in the CACC.
