#13 C.W. POST PIONEERS SOFTBALL SWEEPS LADY CHARGERS

Pioneers of C.W. Post University swept the Dominican College Lady
Chargers this afternoon in a non-conference double-header held at
the DC Softball Field. C.W. Post won the first game 6-1 and
rallied to win the second game, 10-7 in eight innings.
Game One: The Pioneers got on the board in the top of the first when Melissa Medina (Levittown, NY) singled and advanced to second when Kelsey Cooley (Syracuse, NY) walked. Christie Softy (Floral Park, NY) singled to left, driving in Medina for the first run. A groundout and a passed ball put runners on second and third for Samantha Yodowitz (Suffern, NY), who hit a sac fly to left field to make the score 2-0.
The Lady Chargers scored a run in the fourth as freshman catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) homered to right center to cut the lead to 2-1.
C.W. Post answered back with a four run sixth inning as Cooley singled to left and Softy followed with a home run to left. Melissa Hippo (Granite Bay, CA) singled to center, followed by a shot by Yodowitz to left for a 6-1 lead.
Pioneer Yodowitz picked up the win, allowing one run on four hits and five strikeouts. Lady Charger hurler Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) suffered the loss (10-9) allowing six runs on eight hits and five strikeouts.
Game two: C.W. Post jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and added The Pioneers two more runs in the second, pushing the lead to 6-0.
DC scored three runs in the bottom of the second as Shayla Esgro (Jermyn, PA) got a one out single to left field, followed by a single to right by Melanie Hestermann (Lacey Township, NJ). A single by Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) loaded the bases and two runs scored on a Pioneer throwing error. An RBI groundout by senior Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) brought in the third run and cut the lead to 6-3.
The Lady Chargers scored four runs in the fifth as a bases loaded walk to Hestermann brought in a run and a Pioneer fielding error on the next hitter would allow to more runs to come home. The second Pioneer error of the inning would plate Hestermann and give Dominican a 7-6 lead.
C.W. Post tied the game with an RBI infield single in the sixth to force extra innings where they scored three runs in the eight on three hits and two DC errors for the 10-7 victory.
Yadowitz picked up her second win of the day in 3 1/3 innings of work, while Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) suffered the loss (4-4) in 6 1/3 innings of work, allowing four runs on seven hits and five strikeouts.
With the sweep C.W. Post improves to 31-12, while Dominican
falls to 18-16 overall.
