LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL LOSES TWO TO GEORGIAN COURT
UNIVERSITY
Lakewood, NJ (4/19/08) The Dominican College softball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header to host Georgian Court University Lions this afternoon. GCU won the first game, 3-2 and took the second game, 6-3.
Game One: DC took an early 1-0 lead as senior Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) reached base on a GCU error which allowed a run to score.
GCU tied the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI double to left field and went ahead with two runs in the fourth on a two run home run over the center field fence.
The Lady Chargers got a run back in the sixth as Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) led off the game with a single, followed by a single from Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ). A walk to Stathes loaded the bases and freshman Shayla Esgro (Jermyn, PA) drew a RBI walk, but GCU hung on for the 3-2 victory.
Stathes took the loss (12-10), allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and three strikeouts.
Game Two: GCU took a 3-0 lead after two innings, highlighted by a two run blast in the first inning.
The Lady Chargers got on the board in the fourth as senior Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a single by Ollari and scored on a GCU fielding error to cut the Lion lead to 3-1.
The Lions put two more runs on the board in the fifth on back to back home runs.
DC scored two runs in the sixth on an RBI double to left center by Ollari and a RBI single by Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ).
GCU added a run in the bottom of the sixth for the final 6-3 victory.
Stathes suffered her second loss of the day (12-11) in 1 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on two hits.
With the losses, the Lady Chargers fall to 21-19 overall and
12-4 in the CACC.
