DOMINICAN SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH PACE UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (4/22/08) The Dominican College
softball team split a non-conference double-header with Pace
University this afternoon at the DC Softball Field. The Lady
Chargers won the first game, 2-1, while the Setters won the second
game, 3-2.
Game One: The Setters got on the board in the first as Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY) led the game off with a single to right and moved to second on a walk to Alton Frisbie (Indian Hills, CO). Pane went to third on a DC fielding error and came in to score on the bases loaded walk to Tricia Alluto (Matawan, NJ).
DC tied the game in the bottom stanza as senior Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) reached on a fielder's choice and scored on the double to right by designated player Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ).
In the bottom of the seventh, freshman Shayla Esgro (Jermyn, PA) got a one out double to left field and scored a batter later on the RBI double to left by senior Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY).
Lady Chargers starter Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) got the complete game win to improve to 5-5 on the year, allowing one run (none earned) on four hits and seven strikeouts.
Setter starter Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI) took the loss (9-8), allowing two runs on four hits and six strikeouts.
Game Two: Pace once again scored first, this time in the top of the third as Pane got a one out double to left and came in to score as Frisbie reached base on a DC error.
Dominican knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third as freshman Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA) started the inning off by reaching base on a Setter error and moved to second on the ground out by Knuth. A single to left by Terpstra plateed Philpot.
The Lady Chargers took the lead in the fifth as Philpot led off the inning with a single, moved to second on the walk to Terpstra and scored on the RBI double to left by Piasecki to give DC a 2-1 lead.
The Setters fought back in the top of the seventh as Amanda Dague (Spring, TX) got a one out single to left and wen to to second on the walk to Pane. With two outs, Frisbie delievered a single to left to plate both runners and give Pace the 3-2 victory.
Dominican hurler Laurie Edwards (Riverhead, NY) took the loss (4-5), allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits and five strikeouts.
Setter starter Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY) got the win (6-5), allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and three strikeouts.
With the split the Lady Chargers improve to 23-21 overall, while the Setters improve to 21-17 overall.
