DOMINICAN SOFTBALL SWEEPS BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (4/24/08)  The Dominican College women's softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from Bloomfield College this afternoon at the DC Softball Field.  The Lady Chargers won the first game, 6-4 and took the night cap, 9-1 in five innings.

Game One:  The Deacons got on the board in the second inning on a RBI single by Dominique Russo (Clifton, NJ) to plate Amanda Bartels (Saddle Brook, NJ).

BC added a run in the third on a RBI single to center field to score Vickie Berardi (Linden, NJ).

The Lady Chargers got a run back in the third inning off a solo home run over the left field fence by designated hitter Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) to cut the BC lead to 2-1.

BC struck again in the fifth on a solo home run to left field by Berardi, but the Lady Chargers answered back with four runs in the bottom stanza.  Seniors Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) and Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY) ripped back to back RBI singles, followed by a two run double by shortstop Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) to give DC a 5-3 lead.

Bloomfield scored a run in the sixth on the solo home run by Bartels, but Dominican answered in the bottom of the inning scoring as pinch runner Kristi Dillon (Staten Island, NY) scored on a Bloomfield error for the final 6-4 score.

Dominican hurler Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) got the win (14-12), allowing four runs on six hits, while Deacon pitcher Fauna Ryerson (West Milford, NJ) suffered the loss (8-9), allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits.

Game Two: Bloomfield led off the game with another run in the first on a RBI double to center by Bartels to take an early 1-0 lead.

Dominican answered with a four run first inning as Knuth led off the inning with a homerun and was later followed by a three run blast to left field by catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) as DC took a 4-1 lead.

The Lady Chargers followed with a five run fifth inning for the 9-1 victory.  With the bases loaded junior Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) was hit to bring in Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ) who had led off the inning with a single.   Garrison followed with her second home run of the day, this time a grand slam to center field which game DC the 9-1 victory.

Garrison got the win (6-5) in five innings of work, allowing just one run on three hits and nine BC strikeouts.  Deacon starter Erin Covell (Millstone, NJ) took the loss (4-9), allowing nine runs on nine hits.

With the sweep the Lady Chargers improve to 25-21 overall and 15-3 in the CACC, while the Deacons fall to 19-22 overall and 10-10 in the CACC.
