LADY CHARGERS BASEBALL SPLITS WITH UNIVERSITY OF THE
SCIENCES IN PHILADELPHIA
Philadelphia, PA (4/26/08) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host the University of Sciences in Philadelphia this afternoon.
Game One: The first game was scoreless until the fifth
inning when the Devils scored a run on a DC fielding error.
DC struck back in the sixth inning on the Cara Piasecki
(Port Monmouth, NJ) two run home run to take a 2-1 lead..
The Devils tied the game in the seventh on a sacrifice fly ball. In the bottom of the tenth, the Devils pulled out a 3-2 victory, scoring a run on another DC error.
Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) took the loss in 3 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit and four strikeouts.
Game Two: The night cap was also scoreless until the fifth inning as the Lady Chargers scored four runs on five hits and two Devil errors. Asingle to right by senior Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) scored Shayla Esgro (Jermyn, PA) who had led off the inning with a single down the left field line. A sacrifice fly ball by Terpstra brought in the second run and an RBI single by Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) scored Knuth as DC took a 3-0 lead. Piasecki scored an unearned run after getting a single to lift the Lady Chargers to a 4-0 lead.
Dominican added three runs in the seventh as Esgro had a two run single and an RBI single by Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA) extended the DC lead to 7-0.
USP scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI single, but the Lady Chargers got the 7-1 victory.
Garrison got the complete game win (7-6), allowing just one run on six hits and four strikeouts.
With the split Dominican improves to 26-22 overall and 16-6 in
the CACC.
