SOFTBALL SPLITS ON DAY ONE OF CACC TOURNAMENT
Caldwell, NJ (5/1/08) The #3 Dominican College Lady Chargers softball team split on day one of the CACC Softball Tournament being held at Caldwell College. DC lost to #6 University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 3-2 in eight innings, but bounced back to win the elimination game 9-4 against #5 Wilmington University.
SOFTBALL SPLITS ON DAY ONE OF CACC TOURNAMENT
Caldwell, NJ (5/1/08) The #3 Dominican College Lady Chargers softball team split on day one of the CACC Softball Tournament being held at Caldwell College. DC lost to #6 University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 3-2 in eight innings, but bounced back to win the elimination game 9-4 against #5 Wilmington University.
Game One: DC broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth on the solo blast by CACC First Team selection, Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) down the left field line. USP came back to tie the game in the fifth on a home run and took a 2-1 lead in the seventh on a RBI double.
In the bottom of the seventh, Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) led off the inning with a double and came in to score on the one out single by Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) to tie the game at 2-2.
USP pulled ahead in the eighth on a RBI single down the right field line and held on in the bottom of the inning as DC had two one for the 3-2 victory.
Stathes took the loss (16-13) in two innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits. Starter Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) pitched six innings in the no decision, allowing two runs on four hits.
Game Two: The Lady Charger offense woke up in the elimination game as they pounded out 10 hits in the 9-4 victory. WU took a 1-0 lead in the second, but DC put two runs on the board in the bottom of the inning on a lead off homer by Scarillo and an RBI single by Shayla Esgro (Jermyn, PA) to take a 2-1 lead.
DC added to the lead in the third with an unearned run to take a 3-1 lead. The Wildcats scored a run in the fourth, but Dominican tacked on three runs in the bottom stanza on a two run single by senior Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NY). Terpstra came in to score on a WU error for a 6-2 lead.
Wilmington put two runs on the board in the fifth, but the DC offense once again answered back with a three run sixth inning. Esgro led off the inning with a solo home run over the left field fence and Piasecki followed with her second homer of the day, this time a two run blast over the left field fence as DC went on to the 9-4 victory.
Stathes got the win(17-13) in five innings of work, allowing four runs on eight hits. Garrison pitched the last two innings in the save.
With the split DC improves to 29-23 overall. The Lady Chargers will face#6 University of the Sciences in Philadelphia again in another elimination game at 12pm at Caldwell College.
