SOFTBALL FALLS TO DOWLING COLLEGE
Brookhaven, NY (3/22/09) The Dominican College softball team lost a non-conference double-header to host Dowling College this afternoon. The Golden Lions won game won, 6-2 and took the night cap, 9-2.

The Lady Chargers broke a scoreless game with two runs in the top of the third as Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA) led off the inning with a single and scored on the two out blast by sophomore catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ).
Dowling answered back with three runs in the fourth for a 3-2 lead and added two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth for the final 6-2 victory in game one.
Jessica Martinieri (Tampa, FL) led Dominican in the first game with two hits, while Scarillo provided both RBIs. Junior Laurie Edwards (Riverhead, NY) took the loss (1-2) after going four innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two strikeouts.
Dowling wasted no time in game two, scoring three runs in the first to take a 3-0 lead. The Lady Chargers got on the board in their half of the third as freshman Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) led off the inning with a double to right center and scored a batter later on the RBI single to center by Philpot. Scarillo doubled down the left field line with two outs and senior first basemen Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) singled to center to plate Scarillo and cut the Golden Lion lead to 3-2.
Dowling answered back with two runs in the bottom stanza to rebuild a 5-2 lead and added three more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth as they went on to the 9-2 victory.
Scarillo and Ollari each had two hits in the second game. Freshman hurler Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) suffered the loss (4-3) in 2 1/3 innings of work, allowing five runs on six hits. Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) came in relief and allowed three runs on four hits and Edwards pitched the final two innings, allowing one run on one hit.
With the victories Dowling improves to 8-10 overall, while the Lady Chargers fall to 7-6.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to CACC foe, Holy Family University.
