SOFTBALL SWEEPS PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (4/18/09) The Dominican College softball squad swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Rams of Philadelphia University this afternoon at the DC Softball Field. DC won the first game, 1-0 in eight innings and took the night cap 3-1.

Game one was a pitcher's dual as the game was scoreless through seven innings. In the bottom of the eighth Lady Charger catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) hit a one out double to center field. Kelli Rehm (Livingston, NJ) came in to pinch run and designated player Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) delivered a hard hit infield single off the shortstop that allowed Rehm to score the game winning win for the 1-0 Lady Charger victory.
Freshman Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) improved to 11-5 with the win, scattering just four hits and 11 Ram strikeouts.
Ram hurler Ali Schmidt (Cordova, MD) took the loss, allowing one run on nine hits and 12 Lady Charger strikeouts to fall to 13-7 on the season.
In game two DC struck for two runs in the first inning on a two-run double down the left field line by Scarillo which brought in Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) and Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) who hit back to back singles with two outs.
Dominican added a run in the fourth inning on three consecutive singles. Junior right fielder Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA) hit an RBI single to centerfield to plate second basemen Jessica Martinieri (Tampa, FL) and extend the Lady Charger lead to 3-0.
The Rams got on the board in the fifth on an RBI single to center by left fielder Kristyn Loughery (Phoenixville, PA) to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Junior Garrison improved to 9-3 with the complete game win, allowing one run on five hits and seven strikeouts.
Amber Beauchemin (Galloway, NJ) suffered the loss for Philadelphia, allowing two runs on seven hits.
With the victories Dominican improves to 25-12 overall and 11-2 in the CACC.
