SOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM NATIONALLY RANKED GEORGIAN COURT
Orangeburg, NY (4/19/09) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from Georgian Court University, who is currently ranked 21st in the nation by the NFCA, this afternoon at the DC Softball Field. DC won the opening game 7-0 and took the night cap, 3-0.

DC won the opening game 7-0 and took the night cap, 3-0.
Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) led the DC half of the first inning off with a single up the middle, stole second and moved over to third on a wild pitch. She came in to score on the sacrifice fly ball to left field by catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) to give Dominican a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Chargers tacked on two more runs in the third as right fielder Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA) walked to lead off the inning and came in to score on the two run homer over the centerfield fence by shortstop Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ).
In the fifth, senior Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) hit and RBI single to left center and a GCU error allowed Philpot to score. Senior Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) delivered an RBI single to center to extend the lead to 6-0. A fielder's choice RBI by Beck in the sixth gave DC the 7-0 victory.
Freshman Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) picked up the complete game shut-out win, striking out five and allowing four hits.
Lion hurler Diana Sansevera (Manalapan, NJ) took the loss (14-7) allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits.
In game two, Dominican got on the board in the third after taking advantage of a GCU error. In the sixth inning, RBI doubles by Ollari and third basemen Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ) gave DC the eventual 3-0 victory.
Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) got the complete game win, allowing six hits and eight strikeouts to improve to 9-3 on the year.
Lion pitcher Amanda LaFrance (Tinton Falls, NJ) suffered the loss (1-2), allowing three runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.
With the victories Dominican improves to 27-12 overall and 13-2 in the CACC, while Georgian Court falls to 24-13 overall and 10-6 in the CACC.
