Lakeland, FL (3/1/10)  The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double-head with host Florida Southern College this evening.  FSC took the first game 10-6, while DC rallied to win the nightcap, 5-2 in eight innings.

Both Florida Southern (6-5) and Dominican (1-3) won their respective conference titles last year and the teams played fairly even for most of the night. Game one was tied at six before the Moccasins scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 10-6 lead and eventual victory.

In the first game, Dominican trailed 5-2 after four innings, when the offense took advantage of some Mocs errofs and platted four unearned runs.  Senior shortstop Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) had a two run single to left field, followed by a two run single to right by sophomore Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, FL) to take a 6-5 advantage.

FSC answered back with one run in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on four runs in the sixth for the 10-6 victory.

Sophomore Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) took the loss (0-2), allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 17 hits.

In the nightcap, the Mocs led 2-1 before the Chargers tied the game with two out in the top of the seventh inning, and scored three runs with two out in the top of the eighth.

In the seventh Piasecki had a one out single to put two runners on and Jeppson's infield single later brought her in to knot the game at 2-2.  In the eighth, a two out triple to right center by freshman Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) platted two runs and she later came in on the RBI single up the middle by Piasecki as DC went on to the 5-2 victory.

Childers recorded her first collegiate victory (1-1) in eight innings of work, allowing two runs (none earned) on three hits and five strikouts.
