SOFTBALL SWEEPS HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY
Bristol, PA (3/20/10) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host Holy Family University this afternoon. DC won the first game, 3-2 and took the night cap, 11-9 in 10 innings.

Dominican took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single up the middle by junior Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) and a RBI single by sophomore Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA).
Holy Family put runs on the board in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at 2-2. In the top of the seventh inning with go ahead run on third base freshman Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) reached on a fielder's choice squeeze bunt that allowed Jessica Martinieri (Tampa, FL) to score after leading off the inning with a double to left field for the 3-2 victory.
Sophomore Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) got the complete game win (3-2), allowing two runs on nine hits and striking out five batters.
In the night cap, Holy Family University held a 2-0 lead after two innings, but DC game back to tie it at 2-2 in the third as Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) delievered an RBI single to left field. On that play a Tiger error allowed another run to score.
DC exploded for five runs in the fifth inning as Childers recorded her second RBI of the game with a single to left field and a grand slam by senior shortstop Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) over the center field fence to give Dominican a 7-2 lead.
Holy Family tallied three runs in the bottom of the fifth and added one in the sixth and seventh innings to re-tie the game at 7-7. In the eighth, DC scored the go ahead run on a solo blast to left center by sophomore Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ). In the bottom stanza, the Tigers scored the tying run with two outs to make the score 8-8.
Dominican went ahead again the ninth inning on an RBI single through the left side by Plante, but Holy Family rallied in the bottom stanza to force a tenth inning. In the tenth inning with a runner placed at second base, leadoff hitter Scarillo hit a two-run blast for the 11-9 Lady Charger victory.
Pistilli also picked up the win in game two (4-2), pitching the final three innings and allowing two runs (none earned) on three hits. Childers started the game and went seven innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on nine hits.
With the sweep Dominican improves to 8-6 overall and 2-0 in the CACC.
