SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH CALDWELL COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (3/25/10) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Cougars of Caldwell College this afternoon. Caldwell took the first game, 3-0, while Dominican rallied to win the night cap, 5-4 in 12 innings at the DC Softball Field.
Orangeburg, NY (3/25/10) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Cougars of Caldwell College this afternoon. Caldwell took the first game, 3-0, while Dominican rallied to win the night cap, 5-4 in 12 innings at the DC Softball Field.
In the first game, Caldwell had a three-run top of the first inning for the 3-0 lead and eventual victory. DC managed five hits in the shut out loss.
Sophomore Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) suffered the loss (5-3), going seven innings and allowing no earned runs on six hits.
In the night cap, Caldwell held a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh when a bases loaded triple to right field by Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) scored two runs and tied the game 2-2.
Caldwell went up 3-2 in the 11th inning but DC rallied on a sacrifice fly ball to left field which brought in Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) to knot the contest at 3-3.
The Cougars once again went up in the 12th inning but designated player Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) hit an RBI single to center and sophomore Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) had the game winning RBI double to center field to bring in Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) and lift DC to the 5-4 victory.
Freshman Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) improved to 4-4 in the complete game victory, allowing four runs (one earned) on 11 hits and eight strikeouts.
With the split Dominican now stands at 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the CACC.
