SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH ADELPHI UNIVERSITY
Flushing, NY (4/1/10) The Dominican College softball teams split a non-conference double-header with Adelphi University this afternoon. The Panthers won the first game, 8-2 in eight innings, while the Lady Chargers took the nightcap, 6-0.

In game one, Adelphi held a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the seventh inning when pinch hitter Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ) hit a single up the middle to plate Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) and Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) to tied the game 2-2.
The Panthers exploded for six runs on five hits in the top of the eighth for the 8-2 victory.
Sophomore Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) took the loss (6-5), allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits.
In the night cap, the game was scoreless until the top of the seventh when the Lady Chargers charged ahead with six runs on five hits. Freshman Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) got an RBI after reaching base on a Panther fielding error and a two-run blast over the centerfield fench by senior Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) gave DC a 3-0 lead. A two-run single by Martinez put the Lady Chargers up 5-0 and a double to right center field by Corrao brought in the last run and led Dominican to the 6-0 victory.
Freshman Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) picked up the complete game, shutout win (7-4), scattering just three hits and striking out five batters.
With the split Dominican now stands at 13-9 overall.
