OFFENSE POWERS SOFTBALL TO SWEEP OVER FELICIAN COLLEGE
Lyndhurst, NJ (4/7/10) The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked eighth in the latest NCAA East Region Rankings, pounded out 29 hits in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep over host Felician College this afternoon at Matera Field. DC won the first game 11-3 in five innings and took the second game, 13-4 in six innings.
Lyndhurst, NJ (4/7/10) The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked eighth in the latest NCAA East Region Rankings, pounded out 29 hits in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep over host Felician College this afternoon at Matera Field. DC won the first game 11-3 in five innings and took the second game, 13-4 in six innings.
In game one the Lady Chargers racked up 14 hits in the 11-3 victory. DC scored their first run of the game in the second on the RBI fielder's choice by Julie Plante (Swansea, MA). Tied at 1-1 in the third, Dominican exploded for six runs on six hits to take a 7-1 lead. Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ) hit an RBI single throught the left side and a double to left field by senior Jessica Martinieri (Tampa, FL) brought in two more runs. Plante picked up her second RBI of the game with a single and back to back RBI doubles by Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) and Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) brought in the final runs of the inning.
DC closed out the game in the fifth inning with four more runs as Childers hit an RBI triple, followed by back to back RBI singles by Piasecki and catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ). A double down the left field line by sophomore Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) brought in the final run of the game and gave Dominican the 11-3 victory.
Childers got the win (8-4), allowing three runs (none earned) on three hits and collecting five strikeouts.
In game two the Lady Chargers continued to dominate the offensive end of the game with 15 hits. DC held a 3-1 lead after two innings as Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) had a two run single and Martinieri followed with an RBI double.
Dominican added three more runs in the fourth on RBI hits by Plante and Childers. On the Plante double a second run came in to score on a throw to extend the Lady Chargers lead to 6-1. A run in the fifth on the RBI infield single by Plante put DC ahead 7-2.
In the sixth, an RBI single by Jeppson got things going and a Golden Falcon fielding error brought in another run. Jeppson later came in to score after stealing home and Galladay picked up an RBI single. A two run single by Childers accounted for the final two DC runs as they went on to the 13-4 six inning victory.
Childers picked up her second win of the day to improve to 9-4, allowing four runs on 10 hits.
With the victories Dominican improves to 15-9 overall and 7-1 in the CACC.
