SOFTBALL SPLITS ON DAY ONE OF 3RD ANNUAL "GO TO BAT FOR BREAST CANCER" TOURNAMENT
Lakewood, NJ (4/10/10) The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked eighth in the NCAA East Region, split on day one of the 3rd Annual "Go To Bat For Breast Cancer" Tournament hosted by Georgian Court University.

DC defeated Queens College, 6-2, in the first game of the day, but fell to Molloy College, currently ranked fourth in the East Region, 4-2 in eight innings.
In their first game, the Lady Chargers rallied from an early 2-0 deficit with runs in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings for the 6-2 victory. In the third Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) delivered an RBI single to center field to plate Deidre Jeppson (Slymar, CA) who had led the inning off with a double to left field.
The fourth inning saw Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) lead the inning off with a walk, followed by a single to left field by Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY). A one-out double to center field by first basemen Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) brought in both runs. Dominican's run in the fifth was a solo blast by freshman Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) to lead off the fifth inning to extend the lead to 4-2. In the seventh, Plante scored on a passed ball and Scarillo had an RBI sacrifice fly ball to left field for the final 6-2 victory.
Childers picked up the complete game win, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and collecting eight strikeouts.
In game two, the Lady Chargers held a 2-0 lead after five innings, but Lions scored two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to rally to the 4-2 victory. DC got a run in the third inning on the RBI double to left field by senior Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) and tallied their second run on Plante's second home run of the day.
Childers suffered the loss (10-5) allowing four runs on ten hits and recording eight strikeouts.
With the split DC now stands at 16-10 overall.
