SOFTBALL SPLITS ON DAY TWO OF 3RD ANNUAL "GO TO BAT FOR BREAST CANCER" TOURNAMENT
Lakewood, NJ (4/11/10) The Dominican College softball team went 1-1 today at the 3rd Annual "Go To Bat For Breast Cancer" Softball Tournament hosted by Georgian Court University. DC won their first game against Queens College, 10-7, but fell to New York Institute of Technology, 2-1.

In game one, the Lady Chargers took control early, leading 6-0 after two innings. In the first a double by Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) brought in two runs and Knights fielding error on a ball hit by Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ) allowed two more runs to come in. In the second inning, Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) reached base on a QC error and later scored on a passed ball. The second run of the inning scored on the RBI double by senior Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ).
Queens cut the lead to 6-3 in the top of the third, but DC added a run in the bottom stanza on a solo blast by Jessica Martinieri (Tampa, FL) to extend their lead to 7-3. Dominican added a run in the fourth, taking advantage of a Queens error and added two more in the fifth on RBI hits by Piasecki and Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) to take a 10-3 lead. In the seventh the Knights added four runs for the 10-7 victory.
Sophomore Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) got the win in 6 1/3 innings of work, allowing seven runs (one earned) on eight hits. Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) came in to pick up the save in the final 2/3 of the seventh inning.
In the loss to NYIT, Dominican broke a 0-0 score in the top of the fourth on the RBI single to left field by Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY). NYIT tied the game in the fifth and got the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the 2-1 victory.
Childers took the loss (12-6) in 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits.
With the split Dominican now stands at 19-11 overall.
