SOFTBALL SWEEPS NYACK COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (4/15/10) The Dominican College softball team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win game one, 5-4 and cruised to an 11-1 victory in game two to complete a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header sweep of Nyack College this afternoon at the DC Softball Field.
Orangeburg, NY (4/15/10) The Dominican College softball team rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win game one, 5-4 and cruised to an 11-1 victory in game two to complete a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header sweep of Nyack College this afternoon at the DC Softball Field.
Nyack scored three runs in the first and added a run in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. DC cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth on the RBI double by senior Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) and and RBI single off designated player Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) to make the score 4-2.
Dominican added a run in the sixth inning off the RBI single by sophomore Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA). In the seventh Piasecki tied the contest at 4-4 with an RBI single and Corrao delivered the game winning two-out RBI single to lift the Lady Chargers to teh 5-4 victory.
Lady Charger pitcher Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) improved to 8-5 with the complete game victory, allowing four runs on 10 hits and six strikeouts.
In game two Dominican pounded out 11 runs on 12 hits in the 11-1 five inning victory, including three home runs.
In the first inning DC took a 5-0 lead as Piasecki belted a a three-run blast and senior Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) hit a two-run home run.
The Lady Chargers added three more runs in the second and third innings as freshman Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) hit the third DC home run, this one a two-run shot, and Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 8-0.
In the third inning, Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) and Corrao had RBI singles and Martinez hit and RBI double to make the score 11-1.
Childers picked up the win to improve to 13-6 on the season, allowing just one run on seven hits.
With the victories Dominican improves to 21-11 overall and 11-1 in the CACC.
