COUGARS DEFEAT LADY CHARGERS VOLLEYBALL
Orangeburg, NY (10/16/08) The visiting Cougars of Caldwell College improved to 9-8 overall and 6-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Caldwell jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set and had a 21-12 lead when DC charged back with a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 23-21 but freshman Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY) closed out the set for the Cougars with two kills.
The second set saw the Cougars once again jump out to a lead at 20-10 with DC responding with a 6-1 run behind two service aces by Catherine Giordano (Stony Point, NY) and two kills by senior Theresa Hanneman (Pearl River, NY) to cut the lead to 16-21. However it wouldn't be enough as Caldwell came away with the 25-20 second set win.
In the third set, DC came alive and had a 9- 4 lead but this time Caldwell rallied to cut the lead to 13-12. The Lady Chargers had an 18-16 lead when Caldwell went on a 9-3 run to close out the match with the 25-22 victory.
Freshman Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ) led all attackers with eight kills, while Keesha Francois (Elkins Park, PA) added seven kills in the win. Setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH) had 26 assists, while Alao had a game leading four blocks.
Senior Ashley Simpson (Spring Valley, NY) led the Lady Chargers with seven kills, while Kinikia Collier (Garnerville, NY) added six kills. Setter Kaitlin Earl (Greenville, NY) led the team with 22 assists, while libero Giordano led the team with 15 digs.
With the loss the Lady Chargers fall to 0-19 overall and 0-9 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action this Saturday when they travel to CACC opponent, Wilmington University. Game time is set for 12pm.
