LADY CHARGERS VOLLEYBALL TURN BACK CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE GRIFFINS

Orangeburg, NY (11/1/08) The Dominican College women's volleyball team won snapped a 24 match losing streak after defeating visiting Chestnut Hill College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-14) this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) volleyball action on Coach Baxter Court.
Before the match begin, the team honored seniors Kinikia Collier, Kaitlin Earl, Theresa Hanneman and Ashley Simpson.
DC jumped out to an early 10-4 lead in the first set and cruised to the 25-19 victory. The Griffins answered back in the second set, taking an early 10-2 lead, but the Lady Chargers charged back to tie the set at 17-17 and ended the set with an 8-1 run for the 25-18 victory. Dominican never trailed in the third set as they opened up with a 6-0 run en route to the 25-14 victory and 3-0 match win.
The Lady Chargers were led by Collier who had 11 kills and eight digs. Simpson added nine kills and two blocks, while setter Earl had a season high 28 assists.
The Griffins were led by senior outside hitter Marianne Finfrock (Havertown, PA) with seven kills, while freshman setter Katherine Tohanczyn (Hatfield, PA) led the team with 10 assists.
With the victory, the Lady Chargers improve to 1-24 overall and 1-14 in the CACC, while the Griffins fall to 1-19 overall and 0-15 in the CACC.
Dominican returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to CACC opponent, Felician College. Game time is 7pm.
