2008 Dominican College Women's Volleyball Season Preview
The Lady Chargers volleyball program finished their 2007 season with an overall record of 5-16 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference record of 5-12. With a strong contingent of returning athletes and a solid group of incoming players, the team hopes to improve on last year's finish and make a run for the top of the conference.
The team will be led by senior captains Kinikia Collier and Theresa Hanneman who led the 2007 squad in kills with 197 and 186, respectively. The talented senior class is rounded out by 2007 assist leader Katie Earl (485 assists) and Ashley Simpson, who led the team with 42 blocks. This senior class possesses the leadership and drive to help take the team to new heights.
The junior class features two solid all-around athletes in Lauren Palermo and Keriann Quinn who add ball control to the back row and power to the service line.
Sophomores Akirrah Cooper and Yashani Smith will be heavily relied upon for their blocking ability and dominance at the net. Cathy Giordano will look to step in immediately as starting libero with good court awareness and ball control. The sophomore class also benefits from the addition of lefty transfer Kerianne Dudley. With her athleticism and quick arm, she could see immediate playing time at either the outside or opposite hitting position.
In addition to Dudley, the rookie class consists of three freshmen who add depth at all positions. Amanda Burke adds some needed height to the Lady Chargers front row while Gillian Holland and Nicole Bagatta add ball control and could see playing time at either the setting or libero positions.
First year head coach Stefanie Carrington is joined by assistant coach Natalie Griffin. The coaching staff sees tremendous potential in the 2008 Lady Chargers and are anxious for the season to begin.
