Holy Family Remains Undefeated in CACC With Win Over Lady Chargers, 78-48

Two Lady Chargers Reach 1,000th Career Points In Game

Blauvelt, NY (2/16/06) The Tigers of Holy Family University roared past the Lady Chargers of Dominican College, 78-48 this evening in women's CACC basketball action at the Hennessy Center to clinch the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Regular Season Championship.

The Tigers came out hot, starting the game with a 8-0 run led by Megan Bauer (Norwood, PA) who had five points in the first three minutes. The Lady Chargers would cut the lead to six as Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) connected on a jumper, but the Tigers responded with a 7-0 run to pull ahead 19-6. Senior shooter Jill Younghans (Succasunna, NJ) cut the lead to ten points, as she hit a three point basket which was her 1,000th career point at Dominican. HFU then outscored Dominican 9-2 en route to a 38-27 lead at the half.

Sophomore Kelly Killion (Pennsauken, NJ) scored a team high 12 points in the first half, going 4-5 from beyond the three point arc.

The start of the second half mirrored the first as the Chargers went without a field goal for the opening 8:23. The lead for Holy Family remained above 20 points for most of the half. The lone highlight for Dominican was when Ashley Rossi (Greenwood Lake, NY) scored her 1,000th career point with 4:37 left in the contest on a layup.

The Tigers were led by Killion who had a career high 22 points. Bauer netted a double-double with 19 points, a game leading 13 rebounds and had a season high eight blocks in the win. Katie Dunn (Whippany, NJ) and Melissa Brooks (Levittown, PA) each had four assists.

The Lady Chargers had one player in double figures as Rossi had 16 points. Junior Jackie Tracey (Bronx, NY) had a team high six assists and four steals in the loss.

With the win, HFU improves to 23-1 overall and 21-0 in the CACC, while Dominican falls to 15-11 overall and 13-8 in the CACC.

The Lady Chargers are back in action on Saturday, February 18th when they travel to Felician College College in CACC women's basketball action. Game time is 1pm.
