Dominican College Lady Chargers Upend Goldey-Beacom College, 67-53

Blauvelt, NY (2/21/06) The Dominican College women’s basketball team defeated the Goldey-Beacom College Lady Lightning, 67-53 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women’s hoops action at the Hennessy Center.

Blauvelt, NY (2/21/06)          The Dominican College women’s basketball team defeated the Goldey-Beacom College Lady Lightning, 67-53 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women’s hoops action at the Hennessy Center.

DC went on a 14-2 run early in the first half to extend their lead to 18-6.  The Lady Chargers would lead by as many as eighteen points with two minutes remaining, but GBC went 3-4 from the line to cut the lead to sixteen at the half, 37-21.  Senior Danielle Armiento (Pelham, NY) was hot off the bench for Dominican as she netted 10 points, while junior Jackie Tracey (Bronx, NY) had four of her game leading seven assists in the first stanza.  For GBC, Kim Rowley (Dover, DE) led the team with 10 points and seven rebounds. 

The second half mirrored the first as Dominican dominated Goldey-Beacom, leading by as many as twenty-five points with 10:54 remaining in the game.  GBC had the edge under the basket, grabbing 39 rebounds to DC’s 37.  Rowley led all scorers with the game’s only double-double, 25 points and 11 rebounds.  Toni Jones (Rehoboth Beach, DE) netted seven points and eight rebounds in the loss.  Junior Erin Mahoney (Wilmington, DE) led the team with four assists.

The Lady Chargers had two players in double figures, led by Armiento with 14 points.  Senior Jill Younghans (Succasunna, NJ) chipped in 10 points, going 2-4 from beyond the three point arc.  Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) added nine points and five assists.   Freshman Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) contributed eigh points and six rebounds off the bench for Dominican.
               
With the win, Dominican improves to 17-11 overall and 15-8 in the CACC, while Goldey-Beacom falls to 6-20 overall and 6-17 in the CACC.

The Lady Chargers are back in action on Saturday, February 25th when they host Wilmington College in CACC women’s basketball action.  Game time is 1pm.
