Dominican's Tracey Named to All-ECAC Tournament Team As Franklin Pierce College Takes Championship
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Tournament MVP Heather Jacobs scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half as third-seeded Franklin Pierce College posted a 61-60 win in the 2006 ECAC Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament championship game at Holy Family University. With the victory, the Ravens close the year with a 16-14 overall record while the Lady Rams fall to 22-7 overall.

Philadelphia, Pa. -- Tournament MVP Heather Jacobs scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half as third-seeded Franklin Pierce College posted a 61-60 win in the 2006 ECAC Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament championship game at Holy Family University. With the victory, the Ravens close the year with a 16-14 overall record while the Lady Rams fall to 22-7 overall.
The Ravens jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first half, but Philadelphia University was able to battle back, tying the score at 30-30 after 20 minutes of play. In the second half, neither team was able to seize control, with the Lady Rams holding the largest lead of seven points, 45-38. The see-saw affair saw Alisha Ferguson give Philadelphia University its final lead, 57-56, on a three-point play at the 1:40 mark. However, Jacobs then took over, hit one of two free-throws to tie the score with 1:06 remaining before converting a lay-up with 48 seconds left for a 59-57 advantage. After the Lady Rams tied the score on a pair of free throws with 38 seconds remaining, Jacobs then scored to put the Ravens ahead for good, 61-59. Philadelphia University had one more chance with 1.7 seconds remaining, but senior guard Antionene Fullard hit one of two free-throw attempts, leaving the Lady Rams one point short.
Sophomore guard Stephanie Bergeron paced Franklin Pierce with 15 points in the win, while junior forward Danielle D’Ettorre added 11 points and four steals. Abele poured in a game-high 23 points to pace the Lady Rams while fellow junior Nicole Mechell finished with 15 points, as they both earned All-Tournament honors. Rounding out the All-Tournament team was the Ravens’ Heather Benton and Dominican College’s Jackie Tracey (Bronx, NY).
