Bridgeport, CT (1/6/07) The Dominican College women's basketball team improved to 8-3 on the year with a 70-69 victory over host University of Bridgeport in a non-conference game this afternoon on Bruce Webster Court.

Bridgeport, CT (1/6/07) The Dominican College women's basketball team improved to 8-3 on the year with a 70-69 victory over host University of Bridgeport in a non-conference game this afternoon on Bruce Webster Court.
The Lady Chargers held a 36-33 lead at the half and built up a a ten point lead with 12:35 to go as senior guard Jackie Tracey-Spitaleri (Bronx, NY) hit a jumper to make the score 51-41. The Purple Knights responded by going on a 9-0 run to trail 50-51 with 9:47 left.
Bridgeport tied the game at 64-64 with 1:52 to go on two made free throws by Angelina Jimenez and went ahead and later went ahead 68-66 on a lay up with 0:57 on the clock by Jimenez. Freshman Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) tied the game with a jumper shot with 0:37 left in the game and followed with a Tracey-Spitaleri jumper to put DC back ahead 70-68 with 0:02 to go.
Bridgeport imbounded the ball with a long baseball pass to Jimenez who was fouled on the shot attempt. With no time on the clock and a chance to tie the game, she made the first shot from the charity strip, but missed the second to give the Chargers a 70-69 victory.
All three Lady Chargers in double figures, Kristen Tracey (Bronx, NY), Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) and Laskowski each netted 12 points in the win. Tracey-Spitaleri finished with nine points and a game leading six assists. Rotio also had nine points, seven rebounds and two steals.
The Knights were led by Jennifer Rucker with 22 points, while Jimenez finished with eight points and a game leading 13 rebounds.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game scheduled for 6pm.
