White Plains, NY(4/3/07) Gianna Smith of Adelphi was named All-Met Division II women’s college basketball player of the year Tuesday by the National Invitation Tournament and the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
Carrie Seymour of Pace was selected coach of the year for the fourth time.
Joining Smith on the All-Met first team: Mackenzie Lynch, Caldwell; Ashley Wallace, Pace; Randi Bender, Molloy; Erika Ostrove, St.Thomas Aquinas; Erica Bell, C.W. Post.
The All-Met second team comprised: Marissa Franklin,
Bloomfield; Jackie Tracey-Spitaleri, Dominican;
Stephanie Klingele, Pace; Liran Buchris, Pace; Kymira Woodberry,
Molloy; Anette Johansen, NYIT.
Smith led the Panthers with 16.6 ppg and 7.1 rpg, shooting 52.4 percent from the field with 40 steals.
Seymour guided the Setters to the second round of the NCAA tournament and a 24-9 overall record.
Tracey-Spitlaeri, who
hails from the Bronx, NY, was a second team All-CACC pick this
season after leading the Chargers in assists (173), minutes per
game (29.5), was third on the team in rebounding (119)
and scoring (11.2 ppg). She was ranked
1st in the CACC in assist/turnover ratio, 2nd
in assists, 21st scoring and 12th in
steals. Tracey-Spitaleri netted
her 1,000th career point this season (1,120 career
points) and also became DC’s All-Time Assist Leader (516
career assists).
Dominican College finished with a 21-9 record this season and went on to win the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship.
