DOMINICAN LADY CHARGERS TURN BACK QUEENS COLLEGE KNIGHTS

Blauvelt, NY (12/17/07)  The Dominican College women's basketball team turned back the visiting Knights of Queens College, 70-49 this evening in a non-conference game on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. 

The Knights led 15-12 with 12:33 remaining as freshman Rachel Pimm (East Islip, NY) hit a layup.  The lead would be short lived as the Lady Chargers charged back with a 10-3 run to take a 22-18 lead.  DC extended the lead to 33-22 on a jumper by Kayla MacDonald (Pawcatuck, CT) with 1:01 remaining in the first half.

Dominican extended the lead to as many as 29 with 5:20 to go as Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) connected on a jumper to give the Lady Chargers a 67-38 lead.  DC shot 43.9% (29-66) from the floor and 45.5% (5-11) from the three point line for the game en route to the 70-49 victory. 

The Knights were led by freshman guard Amanda Bartlett (Mesa, AZ) with 15 points and four assists.  Jennifer Robbins (Louisville, KY) had a team leading 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Lady Chargers had two players in double figures, led by sophomore Laskowski with 17 points.  Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) had the only double-double of the game with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Junior Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) had a game leading 11 rebounds and MacDonald came off the bench to score nine points in the win. 

With the win, Dominican improves to 5-1 overall, while the Knights fall to 2-6.

The Lady Chargers will travel to St. Anselm College on Wednesday in a non-conference game.  Game time is slated for 3pm.
