2007-2008 Dominican College Women's Basketball Season Summary

The Lady Chargers basketball team reached new heights in the 2007-08 season as they made their first NCAA Regional appearance in program history.  The team finished the year with an overall record of 22-9, tying for second for most wins in a season in school history, and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 14-3.

The Lady Chargers finished the regular season in first place in the CACC North Division and were given the top northern seed in the CACC Tournament.  In the quarter-finals, DC squared off against #4 Warriors of Nyack College and game away with the 78-64 victory.  In the semi-finals, Dominican faced the #2 of the south division, Wildcats of Wilmington University, and came away with a dominating, 74-46 victory to advance to the CACC Championship Game.  In the championship game, the Lady Chargers faced the top seeded and nationally ranked Holy Family University Tigers and were defeated 52-68.

Dominican then earned the programs first ever NCAA bid, garnishing the sixth seed in the Northeast Regional Tournament, which was held at top seeded Holy Family University.  The Lady Chargers faced the third seeded Ravens of Franklin Pierce University from the Northeast-10 conference.  The Ravens held a 24-5 record and had beaten DC, 59-70, during the season in a non-conference game at the Hennessy Center.  In a hard fought battle, the Ravens came away with a 54-66 victory and eventually won the Northeast Regional, after defeating Holy Family, and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.

Leading the way this season for the Lady Chargers was junior captain Althea Chambers, averaging 12.4 ppg and 7.1 rpg.  She started all 31 games this season, averaging 27.4 minutes per game.  She was named to the All-Met Second Team, the CACC All-Academic team for the second time and received All-CACC Honorable Mention honors.  She ranked 14th in the CACC in scoring, sixteenth in rebounding, eighth in steals and sixth in offensive rebounds.

Sophomore forward Adele Laskowski finished second on the team with 11.9 ppg and third with 4.0 rpg after starting all 31 games.  She was ranked 20th in the CACC in scoring and fifteenth in steals and three point field goals made.  For her efforts, she was named to the All-Met First Team and the All-CACC Second Team.

Senior point guard, Dana Rotio averaged 11.3 ppg this season and led the team with a 110 assists and 99 steals.  She was ranked 24th in the CACC in scoring, fifth in assists, first in steals and ninth in three point field goal percentage.  For her efforts, she was named to the All-Met First Team and the All-CACC Second Team.  Rotio netted her 1,000th career point this season in a win against the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and was a team captain this year.  She finishes her career in the top seven in scoring (1258) and nineteenth in rebounding (447).

With the departure of Rotio and starter Kristen Tracey, the Lady Chargers have a strong nucleus of players returning for the 2008-09 season, including Laskowski, Chambers and center, Shalissa Burgess.  With the experience of the returning players and a strong incoming freshman class, the Lady Chargers basketball squad looks to win the CACC Title and return to the NCAA Tournament next year.
