Orangeburg, NY (2/23/10) The Dominican College women's basketball team charged back the visiting Warriors from Nyack College, 70-53, this evening on Senior Night at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (2/23/10) The Dominican College women's basketball team charged back the visiting Warriors from Nyack College, 70-53, this evening on Senior Night at the Hennessy Center.
The Warriors opened the contest with an early 5-2 lead but the Lady Chargers turned the tables with a 26-12 run to take a 28-17 lead with 6:22 left before the intermission and went into the break with a 37-36 lead.
DC continued to dominate on the offensive end opening up a 51-30 lead early into the second half. The Warriors were able to cut the deficit to no closer than a 13-point margin for the rest of the game as Dominican got the 70-53 victory.
Nyack was led by forward Shelly Yount (Belvidere, NJ) who had 15 points. Junior Victoria Sweet (Harlem, NY) netted eight points, a game leading four assists and seven rebounds, while Brittany Mitchell (Queens Village, NY) had eight points off the bench.
Dominican was led by senior guard Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) who had a game leading 21 points. Freshman Bianca Harris (Teaneck, NJ) had a great performance off the bench for the Lady Chargers with nine points(4-4 from the floor) and nine rebounds. Senior Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) netted eight points and six caroms, while Shanice Scully (St. Albans, NY) tallied a game leading four steals.
With the victory Dominican improved to 13-13 overall and 10-8 in the CACC, while Nyack falls to 17-10 overall and 12-5 in the CACC.
Before the game the Lady Chargers honored seniors Sainten, Laskowski and manager Megan Bryant. Junior Kristen Haycook (Point Pleasant, NJ) also was honored before the game as she was named the recipient of the 2010 Sue Heller Memorial Scholarship.
DC is back in action on Saturday when they wrap up regular season play on the road at Goldey-Beacom College. Game time is set for 1pm.
