SECOND HALF RALLY LIFTS WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY OVER LADY CHARGERS LACROSSE

Suffern, NY (4/9/08)  The Wilmington University Wildcats women's lacrosse team used a ten goal second half to secure a 18-12 victory over host Dominican College Lady Chargers, 18-12 this afternoon at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

DC scored the game's first goals as freshman Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) netted a goal just 1:10 into the game.  WU tied it 28 seconds later with goal from Amber Harmon (Bear, DE) off the assist by junior Kelly Wojciechowski (Baltimore, MD)Karlsen asnwered with a 3-0 run to give Dominican a 4-1 lead, but the Wildcats would score two consecutive goals to cut the lead to 4-3 with 18:51 remaining in the half.

The Lady Chargers went on another run, this time scoring four consecutive goals to extend their lead 8-3, but Wilmington closed out the first half with a 5-0 run to tie the game at 8-8.

Once again it was Karlsen for the Lady Chargers who started the scoring off in the second half on an unassisted goal at 29:39 to put DC ahead 9-8.  However, Wilmington dominated the next nine minutes of play, going on a 9-0 run to put them head 17-9.  Dominican put together a 3-0 run, but WU added a goal with 8:46 remaining en route to the 18-12 victory.

Karlsen led the Lady Chargers with a season high seven goals.  Junior Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) and sophomore Jen Olin (Oceanside, NY) added two goals each, while Sara Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) had the other DC goal.  Freshman Amanda Matos (Vernon, NY) had an assist.

The Wildcats were led by Wojciechowski, Harmon and Danielle Niccoli (Baltimore, MD) who each netted three goals.  Amy Waggoner (Baltimore, MD), Amanda Jenkins (Baltimore, MD) and Katelyn Gibas (Aberdeen, NJ) all added two goals in the win, while three other WU players netted a goal.

Senior Colby Bugda (Abingdon, MD) and Waggoner led the game with four assists each.

With the win, Wilmington improves to 7-3 overall, while Dominican falls to 1-8 on the season.

The Lady Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they host Lancaster Bible College at the DC Lacrosse Field.  Game time is set for 2pm.
