RUTHERFORD, NJ- Freshman forward Angela Correia (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) tallied three goals and one assist to lead the Chargers of Dominican College over the Golden Falcons of Felician College 5-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) womens soccer action.
The games first goal was scored by Correia in the 15th minute as Felician goalkeeper Amanda Musarra (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Hasbrouck Heights) and defender Makenzie Woods (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Hasbrouck Heights) had a communication problem just inside the box. As Musarra was coming off her line to collect a bouncing ball, Woods came by to try and head the ball away and deflected it over her head. Correia collected the loose ball and deposited it in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, freshman defender Marie LaMaida (New Hyde Park, NY/Herricks) placed a well taken corner kick right on the head of Correia and she flicked it into the goal for a 2-0 Dominican lead. The second half would see Dominican pad their lead in the 56th and 58th minutes with goals from Pam Mertens (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) and Correia. The games final tally came with just nineteen seconds remaining from freshman defender Amanda Ragule (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz).
Dominican goalkeeper Allison Comentino (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville) registered eight saves in securing the shutout. Amanda Musarra had seven saves for the Golden Falcons. The Chargers improve their overall record to 5-4-1 while Felician drops to 0-8. The Golden Falcons return to action on Wednesday September 28 against the Eagles of Post University in Waterbury, CT at 3:30 PM.
