5 Wilmington Upsets #4 Dominican, 3-2

Blauvelt, NY (10/31/05)The fifth seeded Wilmington College Lady Wildcats (9-1-1) upset the fourth seeded Dominican College Lady Chargers, 3-2 this afternoon in the quarter finals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament at the Dominican College Soccer Field.

The Lady Chargers attacked early, as Marie LaMaida (New Hyde Park, NY) scored at 3:36, putting DC up 1-0. Three minutes later freshman Angela Correia (Elizabeth, NJ) would net a goal for a 2-0 Lady Charger lead.

Wilmington got their first goal of the game as Danielle Szymanski (Smyrna, DE) scored at the nine minute mark.

Down 2-1 at the half, the Lady Wildcats rallied to score two answered goals in the second half by sophomore Begum Malali (Galloway, NJ). Her game tieing goal came at 61:04 and the game winner came four minutes later off the pass by Szymanski.

Wildcat keeper Catie Joynes (Bel Air, DE) had seven saves, while Lady Charger keeper Sara Cordaro (Poughkeepsie, NY) had five saves in 65 minutes and Ashley Narwick

(Staten Island, NY) had two saves in the loss.

Wilmington advances to the CACC semi-finals and will play on Thursday at 2pm against #1 Holy Family. The semi-finals and finals will be held at Tryon Field in Rutherford, NJ.
