Holy Family Selected First In CACC
New Haven (8/21/06) Holy Family University is the pre-season favorite to win the 2006 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) womens soccer title, according to a poll conducted by the conferences 11 head coaches. The Tigers were voted first on 10 of the 11 ballots and accumulated 119 total points. Philadelphia University picked up one first-place nod and finished second in the poll with 108 points.

NEW HAVEN (August 21, 2006) - Holy Family University is the pre-season favorite to win the 2006 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's soccer title, according to a poll conducted by the conference's 11 head coaches. The Tigers were voted first on 10 of the 11 ballots and accumulated 119 total points. Philadelphia University picked up one first-place nod and finished second in the poll with 108 points.
Holy Family, under the direction of CACC Coach of the Year, Mike Biddle, won last year's CACC Tournament with a 3-0 victory over Goldey-Beacom. The Tigers finished the season with a 13-7-2 record and a 10-0-1 conference mark. The Tigers return eight starters, including senior Maureen Hampton, who netted all three goals in last year's CACC Championship game en route to earning Tournament MVP honors. The Tigers also return two All-CACC performers in senior midfielders Brianne Redelheim and Melissa Gamble.
Philadelphia tied Holy Family for the CACC regular-season crown with an identical 10-0-1 record and finished
11-9-2 overall. The Rams will be eligible to play in the CACC Tournament for the first time this season. The team was not able to participate last year due to a conference rule prohibiting first-year members from taking part in conference tournaments.
Caldwell is picked to finish third with 85 points after compiling a 6-3-2 CACC record to go with an 8-8-3 overall showing in 2005. The Cougars return the 2005 CACC Player of the Year, junior forward Brook Delucca. Delucca ranked third in the CACC last year with 27 points, and tied for third in both goals (10) and assists (7).
Dominican and Wilmington are fourth and fifth in the poll with 80 and 77 points, respectively. Dominican is coming off a 6-11-2 overall campaign and a 5-4-2 finish in the CACC, while Wilmington went 9-10-1 last year and 5-5-1 in the CACC. The Chargers return 2005 CACC Rookie of the Year, Angela Correia.
