RINKS NETS GAME-WINNER IN DOUBLE OVERTIME TO EDGE DOMINICAN

Caldwell, NJ (10/2/08) Senior midfielder Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX) netted the game winning goal in the 102nd minute to lift the Caldwell College women's soccer team to a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Thursday afternoon at Caldwell Field.

With the win the Cougars improve to 2-6-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference, while the Chargers fall to 3-6-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the CACC.

Just over a minute into the second overtime period, senior midfielder Kristee Paknis (Whiting, NJ) crossed the ball from the right flank to Rinks in front of the Chargers' goal. Rinks buried a shot into the left side of the goal for the Cougar victory.

Rinks began the play that led to Caldwell's first goal of the game, when her pass sent senior forward Kim Fenton (Galloway Twp., NJ) down the left side. Fenton centered the ball to Paknis, who scored from eight yards out.

The Lady Chargers tied the game in the first half, when Rosa Centurion (Mamaroneck, NY) headed home a corner kick from senior Shannon Harding (Marlton, NJ) in the 21st minute of action.

Caldwell controlled the offensive end of the game, outshooting Dominican 25-5. Lady Charger keeper Valentina Sturchio had a season high 14 saves in the loss, while sophomore Lauren Hoenig (Howell, NJ) had two saves for the Cougars.

Dominican is back in action on Saturday when they travel to CACC opponent, Chestnut Hill College.  Game time is slated for 12pm in Philadelphia, PA.
