Both the Cougars and Lions picked up 13 first place votes and finished with 97 total points.
Georgian Court is the four-time defending CACC Tournament champion after a 3-1 victory over Philadelphia University last season. The Lions have made four consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament and are the only CACC team to notch a victory. GCU has won 73 straight conference matches, four shy of the national record established by West Texas A&M from Sept. 18, 1999 to Oct. 10, 2003. The Lions went 27-10 overall last season and 19-0 in the CACC. Returning for the Lions will be senior Stephanie Rivera, who was a first team All-CACC and Daktronics All-Region pick last season. Also back will be sophomore Brandi Arsenault, who was named the 2009 CACC Tournament MVP.
Caldwell was selected first in the North Division with 13 first-place votes. The Cougars return 11 of 12 players from a team that went 21-12 overall and 16-3 in conference play en route to its second straight CACC North Division regular-season championship. Junior setter Lauren Roth was an All-CACC first team selection in 2009, while junior middle blocker Titilola Alao and sophomore outside hitter Susan McDonough made the second team. McDonough also was named CACC co-Rookie of the Year after leading the Cougars in kills. In addition to the six recruits joining the roster this season, Caldwell has sophomore right side Amber Mosher back after she missed the entire 2009 season due to injury. Mosher earned All-CACC first team accolades as a freshman in 2008.
Philadelphia was picked second in the South Division and is coming off a 32-6 season in 2009, including a 17-2 CACC record and an appearance in the conference tournament championship match. The 32 wins are the most in head coach Mark Magarity's six seasons at the helm. The Lady Rams graduated five starters, including the 2009 CACC Player of the Year, Celena Rendon. This season, lone senior setter Lauren Hoover will provide the young squad with veteran experience. Sophomore middle hitter Ellie Edgar returns as the team's top kills and digs leader.
Dominican College was selected second in the North Division and garnered one first-place vote after going 15-4 in conference play and 22-10 overall last season. The team returns 11 players, including 2009 CACC co-Rookie of the Year, Michelle Fiorvanti. Fiorvanti led the team and conference in kills (346), while ranking second in the CACC in kills per game (3.15). For her efforts she was named to the All-CACC Second Team. Fellow rookie Whitney Ranger also had a stellar 2009 season, finishing third in the CACC with 917 assists and fourth in service aces (52) and service aces per game (0.49). The Lady Chargers will be led by the 2009 CACC Coach of the Year, Stefanie Carrington.
The 2010 season gets underway on Thursday, Sept. 2, with three teams in action. The 2010 conference tournament will be hosted by Georgian Court on Nov. 9, 12 and 13 in Lakewood, N.J. The complete 2010 CACC Volleyball preseason poll is below.
