PIONEERS COMPLETE COMEBACK OVER CHARGERS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/30/26) The Dominican University New York men's volleyball team fell in five sets to the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University tonight in non-conference action in the Hennessy Center.
The Pioneers rallied from being down 2-0 and won three straight sets to complete the 3-2 comeback victory and improved to 4-2. The Chargers fall to 2-5 overall on the season.
After taking a hard fought first set 29-27, Dominican followed with a strong second set and took a 2-0 advantage after a 25-21 win.
The Pioneers outlast the Chargers 25-23 in the in the third set and then forced a fifth set with a 27-25 win in the fourth frame.
The Pioneers rolled in the fifth set after building an early lead on their way to the 15-5 win and completed the comeback.
The Chargers were led by Phinehas Wiley who recorded 19 kills while picking up five total blocks and two service aces for 24.5 points scored. Ayden Shaw finished with 16 kills and five digs while his brother Jackson Shaw added 10 kills and six digs.
Alejandro Miranda recorded a team-high 10 digs while setter Jaiden Wilcox picked up a match-high 45 assists and added eight digs.
Tommaso Falchi led the way in total blocks with six adding one solo block and five block assists. Luke Gavin-Ruple finished with four block assists.
The Chargers and the Pioneers are set for a rematch tomorrow night in Fairfield, Conn.
