The game is one of ten regular-season Division II contests being televised this year. The semi-finals of the Division II NCAA Tournament will also be aired. The Warriors and Chargers will tip off at 11:30 am at the Hennessy Center.
This is the fifth year that Division II athletics will be televised. The CACC was also featured last year, when the Bloomfield College and Caldwell College women played in front of a packed house at the George R. Newman Center. Caldwell won the game, 68-61.
"This is another tremendous opportunity to showcase CACC basketball to the nation," said CACC Commissioner, Dan Mara. "We are proud that the great Dominican-Nyack rivalry will be televised. The CACC put on a great show with last year's Bloomfield-Caldwell national TV game. I know the student-athletes and fans of Dominican and Nyack will provide an entertaining and well-played game in an outstanding game environment. We are grateful to the NCAA Division II Presidents Council and the Division II Media Advisory Group for selecting this game to be broadcast."
Dominican qualified for the CACC Tournament last season as the No. 4 seed in the North and fell, 69-58, to the eventual tournament champion, Felician College. The Chargers concluded the season with a 14-16 record and went 10-8 in CACC action. The team returns three starters including the 2009-10 CACC Rookie of the Year, guard Leon Porter. Porter was also a third team All-Conference selection after posting averages of 14.7 points and 5.4 assists per-game last season. Senior center Almin Hodzic was an All-CACC honorable mention pick and averaged 10.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per-contest as a junior.
Nyack went 8-10 in the CACC last season and 13-17 overall and was just one game shy of making a CACC Tournament appearance. Headlining the returning players is All-Conference player and team co-captain James Oyamo, who led the team in scoring (13.7) and rebounds (6.7) last season. Junior Matt Morgan was fourth on the team in scoring (10.2), led the team in assists (3.5) and shot over 40% from behind the arc. Anchoring the Warriors in the paint will be returning part-time starter Lafayette Curtis, who checked in with an average of 6.8 ppg and 3.6 rpg last season.
"We are very excited to let the nation in on one of the great rivalries in Division II sports," said Nyack Director of Athletics, Keith David. "The good-natured yet intense contests will continue for a long time and we are happy to showcase for the nation what we have had for 30 years."
"It's an honor to have our team and our institution showcased on national television," said Nyack head coach Ted Quinn. "It's a big thrill for our student-athletes and the entire Nyack community. To be showcased along with our respected rival, Dominican, is exciting and will add to what is already a great college basketball atmosphere. It is sure to give the viewers an entertaining look at Division II basketball in the East Region."
