CHARGERS CHARGE PAST NYACK COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (1/22/11) The Dominican College men's basketball team won their third straight and ninth of out their past 10 games this afternoon after charging past the visiting Warriors of Nyack College, 73-58, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game which was nationally televised from the Hennessy Center on the CBS College Sports Network.

Orangeburg, NY (1/22/11) The Dominican College men's basketball team won their third straight and ninth of out their last 10 games this afternoon after charging past the visiting Warriors of Nyack College, 73-58, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game which was nationally televised from the Hennessy Center on the CBS College Sports Network.
The Chargers who improve to 9-8 overall and 5-2 in the CACC never trailed while shooting 54.0% (27-50) from the floor during the contest and out rebounding the Warriors (2-14. 0-8 CACC), 31-20.
DC opened up the scoring with the game's first seven points on a Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) three point basket and back-to-back buckets from junior forward Michael Calzonetti (Gloucester, NY) to take a 7-0 advantage.
Dominican held a 19-9 advantage with 12:16 on the clock, but Nyack fought back with a 12-2 tear to tie the game at 21-21. The Chargers came back to close out the remaining 8:26, outscoring the Warriors, 18-8, to take a 39-29 advantage at the intermission.
Up 54-44 with 11:48 left in regulation, DC used an 11-2 spurt, highlighted by back-to-back dunks from senior center Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) and capped off by three straight points from sophomore forward Daniel Woods (Upper Marlboro, MD) to increase their lead to 19 points (65-46). In the remaining 5:29 of the game, NC outscored the Chargers, 12-8, but the Warriors couldn't cut the deficit to below 15 points and DC came away with the 73-58 win.
Hodzic, the CACC Player of the Week, led all scorers and recorded the game's only double-double with 20 points and 13 points to tally his fifth straight and seventh double-double of the season.
Calzonetti finished with a season high 15 points, shooting 7-8 from the floor, while Porter scored 14 points and had a game leading six assists in the victory.
Dominican returns to action on Tuesday night when they host Concordia College in a CACC game scheduled for an 8pm tip-off time at the Hennessy Center.
