THREE-PEAT! LADY CHARGERS SECURE THIRD STRAIGHT CACC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP
Lakewood, N.J. (5/4/25) The #1 seed Dominican University New York Lady Chargers captured their third straight CACC Tournament Championship with a 19-10 victory over #2 seed Thomas Jefferson University this afternoon in the CACC Finals played on the campus of Georgian Court University.
The Lady Chargers, #3 in the latest NCAA East Region Poll and #24 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll, improve to 18-1 on the season and extend their winning streak to 17 games.
The Rams scored the game's first two goals before Dominican answered and scored four out of the next five goals for a 4-3 lead by the start of the second quarter.
Dominican held a two goal lead early on in the second quarter but the Rams scored back to back goals to tie the game at 6-6 with 5:39 left in the opening half.
The Lady Chargers would then go on a 7-0 run as the first half came to a close and the second half began. Dominican would outscore the Rams 10-4 in the second half on their way to the 19-10 win and their third straight CACC title.
DU goalkeeper Kristinamarie Kaszovitz made seven saves as she secured her 18th win of the season in net.
TJU goalkeeper Kalyn Ammerlaan made eight saves for the Rams but suffered the loss.
Madelyn Grella, Erica Ortiz, and Grace DeStasio combined for 17 of the 19 goals DU scored.
Grella scored a team-high seven goals on 15 shots while recording three assists including her 200th assist of her career. Grella combined for 11 goals and seven assists between the semifinals and finals.
Ortiz scored six goals on seven shots and picked up a team-high 13 draw controls while adding two ground balls. Ortiz combined for nine goals in the semis and finals. Ortiz added four assists last Tuesday and also combined for 25 draw controls in the two tournament games helping her secure tournament MVP.
DeStasio combined for 10 goals in two tournament games while scoring four in today's final. DeStasio also picked up three ground balls and three draw controls.
Caitlin Costello and Sydney Strohmayer each scored one goal and each dished out two assists. Madison Mileti picked up a team-high four ground balls and recorded one assist. Erin Carr picked up three ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Next up for the Lady Chargers will be the NCAA East Regional Tournament as they secured the first ever CACC automatic bid.
